Common tansy, or wild mountain ash

Along roads and forest edges, it is often found common tansy(Tanacetum vulgare) - a perennial herb from the Asteraceae family up to 120-150 cm high, with a long woody rhizome, planted with thin lobular roots.

The stems of tansy are straight, numerous, often slightly pubescent; the lowest leaves are petiolate, and the rest are sessile. The yellow, fragrant tubular flowers are rich in essential oils. Flower baskets are hemispherical, almost flat from above. They are collected at the top of the stem by a shield. The plant blooms in July – September.

The people call tansy wild mountain ash, tk. with its inflorescences and carved leaves, it is very reminiscent of this beautiful plant. Tansy blooms for a long time, from July to September.

Tansy grows well in the garden, fulfilling its protective functions. Within a radius of 8-10 meters from growing tansy, not a single moth butterfly and many other flying pests will lay their testicles.

Common tansy (Tanacetum vulgare)

Tansy is widely used in folk medicine. Tansy inflorescences are harvested during flowering, cutting off its baskets with peduncles no longer than 2 cm. They are dried under a canopy or in dryers at a temperature not higher than 40 ° C. Tansy is used in the form of infusions as an anthelmintic. The beneficial effect of tansy in the treatment of diseases of the liver and gallbladder, as well as in acute intestinal diseases, has been established. Outwardly, tansy is effective for treating wounds, abrasions, and lice.

To prepare an infusion of tansy, pour 1 teaspoon of dried flowers with 1 glass of boiling water and insist in a warm place for 2 hours. After cooling, take 1 glass 3 times a day 30 minutes before meals.

To prepare an alcoholic tincture of tansy, you need 1 tbsp. pour a spoonful of chopped flowers with 0.5 cups of alcohol and leave for 10 days in a warm place. Take 30 drops, 3 times a day.

For diseases of the liver and biliary tract, low acidity of gastric juice, a collection consisting of 2 hours of tansy inflorescences, 1 hour of plantain herb, 2 hours of yarrow grass and 2 hours of mountain ash is used. To prepare the infusion, you need 1 tbsp. pour a spoonful of crushed collection with 1 glass of boiling water, bring to a boil, insist, wrapped in a warm place for 1 hour, drain. Take 0.5 cups 3 times a day 20 minutes before meals.

With cirrhosis of the liver, a complex collection is used, consisting of equal shares of tansy flowers, yarrow herb, St. John's wort, rose hips, elecampane root, knotweed herb, string herb. To prepare the infusion, you need 1 tbsp. pour a spoonful of the crushed mixture with 1 glass of boiling water, insist in a warm place for 2 hours, strain. Take 0.5 cups 3 times a day 30 minutes before meals.

For diseases of the biliary tract and cholelithiasis, a collection consisting of equal shares of tansy flowers, corn stigmas, immortelle flowers, dandelion root, celandine herb, chamomile flowers, fennel fruits, wormwood herb, calendula flowers, mint herb is used. To prepare the infusion, you need 1 tbsp. pour a spoonful of the crushed mixture with 1 glass of boiling water, insist in a warm place for 1 hour, strain. Take 0.5 cups 3 times a day 30 minutes before meals.

For kidney stones and bladder stones, herbalists recommend a collection consisting of 1 tsp tansy leaves, 2 tsp lingonberry leaves, 1 tsp horsetail herb and 2 tsp wheatgrass rhizomes. To prepare the broth, you need 1 tbsp. pour a spoonful of the crushed mixture with 1 glass of boiling water, heat in a boiling water bath for 10 minutes, strain. Take in the morning, in the evening for 1 glass of broth.

For rheumatism in folk medicine, wine infusion of tansy is used. To prepare it, you need 3 tbsp. spoon tansy pour 0.5 liters of dry white wine, insist in a warm place for 10 days, drain. Take 0.25 glasses 3 times a day.

For colds, the rarely used collection, consisting of 1 teaspoon of tansy flowers, helps well. 2 tsp lilac flowers and 2 tsp yarrow herb. To prepare the infusion, you need 1 tbsp.pour a spoonful of the crushed mixture with 1 glass of boiling water, insist in a thermos for 8 hours, strain. Take 0.25 glasses 4 times a day.

With a severe cold, many herbalists recommend washing your hair with a hot broth of tansy, while washing the nasal cavity with it. Then wipe your head dry, wrap it with a dry towel, go to bed and warm yourself well.

In inflammatory diseases of the oral cavity, rinsing the mouth with an infusion of flowers or tansy leaves gives a good effect.

Tansy flowers are part of the anti-allergy collection. The collection consists of 2 hours of tansy flowers, 3 hours of herb, 3 hours of tricolor violet herb, 1 hour of wormwood herb, 2 hours of licorice root, 1 hour of mint herb. To prepare the infusion, you need 1 tbsp. pour a spoonful of collection with 1 glass of boiling water, leave for 30 minutes, drain. Take 0.75 cup infusion 3 times a day 30 minutes before meals.

With roundworms, a collection consisting of equal shares of tansy flowers, chamomile flowers and wormwood herb gives a good result. To prepare it, you need 1 tbsp. pour a spoonful of the crushed mixture with 1 glass of boiling water, insist in a warm place for 1 hour, strain. Take 1 glass in the morning and in the evening for 3 consecutive days.

For the same purposes, another effective method is used in traditional medicine. For this you need 1 tbsp. a spoonful of powder of tansy flowers and gruel of 2 cloves of garlic pour 2 cups of milk, cook in a sealed container over low heat for 10 minutes, cool, drain. The resulting broth in a warm form is introduced as an anthelmintic into the intestines in the form of an enema and hold this mixture inside the intestines for a longer time. The course of treatment is 7 days. If necessary, repeat the course of treatment after a 10-day break.

Do not forget that the aerial part of the plant has insecticidal properties and therefore well repels mosquitoes, flies, and moths.

Remember! Tansy preparations are highly toxic, they must be used carefully, avoiding overdose. Tansy grass, when eaten by animals in large quantities, causes them to be poisoned. Even a small admixture of tansy in dry hay gives the milk a bitter taste!
