What are parrot tulips?

Parrot tulips are the result of a mutation of common tulips. In other words, they are the result of genetic changes. Parrot tulips were selected from the group of late blooming tulips, as well as from the "Triumph" class - on the basis of wavy and unevenly cut edges of the petals. The very first parrot tulips appeared in the seventeenth century in France, but they became known in the Netherlands only a hundred years later.

Exotic shape and vibrant color

Parrot tulips are truly unique flowers. They are much larger and more decorative than their other relatives. Their open flowers reach 12 cm in diameter. The height of the stem is from 35 to 50 cm. The bizarre shapes of the flowers and the varied color of the petals make them unusually catchy and noticeable. Petals deeply cut along the edges can have a bright color in the most unpredictable combinations. Such a bright outfit allows them to always be in the very center of attention - both in the garden and in a bouquet!

Additional benefits

Parrot tulips are very attractive even when their flowers have not yet opened. Already at the stage of the appearance of tight buds, they immediately stand out among other tulips - after all, all the signs of fantastic elegance are already noticeable in them, making them easy to recognize even from a distance. Some varieties, such as Orange Favorite, Blue Parrot and Blumex Favorite, have another advantage: a great smell.

Parrot tulips go well with perennial plants with decorative leaves, such as milkweed or peonies. They look great both in the border and in large flower pots.

For growing these tulips, sunny and sheltered places in the garden are optimal.
