Choosing broccoli varieties for the garden

Broccoli is a close relative of the beloved by many cauliflower, it is no coincidence that they are very similar to each other in appearance. But broccoli has a lower density of heads, the looser heads of this cabbage are located on fleshy shoots 15-20 cm long, in appearance and taste somewhat reminiscent of asparagus. And the color of the heads is unusual for our eyes - from dark green to purple. This culture is quite rare in our gardens, despite its great nutritional value, original and delicate taste, unpretentiousness and favorable climatic conditions for its cultivation - from temperate to northern farming zones.

In all respects, broccoli surpasses its more popular relative in our country - cauliflower. It is not afraid of spring frosts, it is practically not damaged by pests, it is fruitful and has an increased repair ability, i.e. after harvesting the main head until the very frost, every 5-7 days it gives a crop of numerous small heads the size of a hen's egg. It is less demanding on growing conditions. In addition, along with the heads, young shoots up to 15 cm long also go for food, for which they called her asparagus cabbage. These seemingly dense shoots in ready-made dishes are so tasty and tender that they resemble soft butter.
