Floral decoration of terraces

To achieve the maximum effect when decorating a terrace, it is necessary to ensure that the flowers are combined in color, the forms of the plants complement each other, and the flowering periods follow each other.

Plants in tubs are the easiest and fastest way to decorate your terrace. For these purposes, annual and perennial flowers, bulbous plants, as well as frost-resistant shrubs that can spend the winter in open-air pots are used.

Spring

At the beginning of spring, the beautiful decoration of the terrace is provided by bulbous plants. Low-growing and compact plants with small flowers (crocuses, galanthus, pushkinia, woodland) look best in small pots. Low tulips are also appropriate here. Also add daffodils, hyacinths, muscari to your composition and enjoy their delicate aroma.

At the beginning of summer, after flowering bulbous, their leaves begin to turn yellow. Don't rush to prune them, as they help the bulbs to store up nutrients and energy to set off the flower fireworks again in the spring. Remove pots with faded plants from the terrace and water regularly. Only when the leaves wither completely, cut them off, and put the pots in a dry place. Plant bulbs that need to be dug up annually, such as tulips and hyacinths, should be dug up and stored until autumn planting.

With skillful planning, the flowering of the bulbs on the terrace will continue for several months. The first to bloom are snowdrops (galanthus), crocuses, reticulated iris and spring flowers (erantis). They are followed by chianodoxa, Pushkinia, Proleski, spring white flower and daffodils. In May, the hazel grouse blooms, then decorative bows, muscari, hyacinths and early tulips. Until the end of the month, triumphal and lily-colored tulips are in bloom.

In addition, there is a large number of winter-hardy shrubs and trees that bloom in spring (lilac, crown mock orange, forsythia, almonds, rhododendrons, gray spirea). They can also be added to your terraced compositions.

Summer

In summer, the colorful decoration of the terrace is primarily created by annual plants in tubs or hanging pots, such as petunia, lobelia, pelargonium, fuchsia, nasturtium, scented tobacco and many others. They bloom continuously throughout the summer and delight the eye with bright cascades of flowers.

For summer decoration of sunny terraces, you can also use a huge variety of beautifully flowering perennial plants - irises, peonies, lilies, carnations, bells, chamomile, phlox, delphiniums, daylilies, coreopsis and many others.

Perhaps the most spectacular plant for decorating light terraces is roses. The selection of roses is great, for every taste. In tubs, they grow both the smallest dwarf, or mini-roses with red, orange-red, yellow, pink and white flowers, which do not require much space, and the largest ones - climbing or climbing. Standard roses, like no other form of roses, look especially impressive on the terrace. Companions of roses can be clematis, sage, horned violet, soft cuff, lavender. Climbing roses require a lot of space, large pots and tall supports (such as pergolas or trellises) on which they can be fixed and guided upward.

On the terraces facing north, it is impossible to grow light-loving plants that cannot do without the sun. There is only one thing left - to grow shade-tolerant herbaceous perennials with decorative leaves - hostu, heuchera, badan, brunner, ferns, lamb, etc.

On the east and west side, the terrace is lit by the sun for one part of the day and in the shade the other. Therefore, on such a terrace in partial shade, most flowering plants in tubs feel good.

Astilbe with bright pink flowers, standard fuchsia trees with dark red flowers, from annual flowers - coleus, begonias and forget-me-nots are grown on a semi-shaded terrace. You can also recommend a range of hardy shrubs. These are mahonia, treelike and panicle hydrangea, viburnum, irga, various spireas, from lianas - these are maiden grapes and honeysuckle honeysuckle.

Shady terraces should never look gloomy or cold. Light, white furniture and a light floor will help bring light. Flower containers should also be light colors.

Autumn

The garden on the terrace will delight in autumn with bright fruits, colorful leaves and late flowers. Herbaceous perennials such as sedum, rudbeckia, physalis, anemone, chrysanthemums, autumn asters bloom the very last in the garden and enchant us with an abundance of colors and shades.

Ornamental cereals are very beautiful on the autumn terrace: sedge, fescue, millet, haretail, penesetum.

Annual plants such as ornamental cabbage also decorate the terrace perfectly. With the onset of cold weather, it is painted in bright colors.

Shrub plants in tubs for the autumn terrace: fan maple, heathers, barberry, cotoneaster, erika, euonymus and others.

If the first night frosts threaten, the plants should be brought into a warm room at night. In sheltered areas in front of house walls, which accumulate heat and release it on cool nights, the outdoor season can be extended, as well as in areas sheltered from wind and rain.

Winter

Leave a few frost-resistant decorative elements outside - stone figurines, flowerpots, thick glass balls or metal supports for climbing plants - so that the frost will turn them into works of art for a while. In cold weather, all the benefits of evergreens and conifers are manifested. Live green looks attractive, complemented by bright red branches of white turf or spiral twigs of willow or hazel. Evergreen leaves of rhododendron, mahonia, boxwood, as well as bright needles of juniper, pine or dwarf blue spruce look great.

It is clear that we are dealing with frost-resistant plants in tubs. However, they need to be protected by creating an insulated sheath around the pots and crowns in severe frosts.
