Soaring petunias

About five years ago, on the Internet, I saw a beautiful structure in the form of a tree with petunias. Then I was just starting to grow petunias. I really liked this idea. I asked my husband if he could make something like that for me. “Of course I can,” was his answer. He's a jack of all trades! The construction was ready in a week. Then I saw the flower girl in the form of an arch. And this dream of mine also came true.

I like them because they look impressive - an avalanche of flowers. Our site is narrow - 12 m wide near the house, so such structures are convenient for us. And you don't need to do weeding, just water the flowers.

Racks-trees were made from metal pipes and corners, painted with paint for metal. They are four-tier, for 16 pots ("bowls"). The structure revolves around its axis. A pipe is driven into the ground to a depth of 1.5 m. It is of a smaller diameter than the central one, and the entire structure is put on this pipe. The pots are supported by legs (made of a metal shank, bent at the ends). During the winds, the "tree" stands firmly, does not sway.

The dimensions of the structure in the form of a tree: height from the ground - 2 m, distance between tiers - 30 cm, the upper tier by 1 pots, the tier below - by 3 pots, the other three tiers - by 4 pots. The length of the uppermost "branches" is 35 cm, the second - 45 cm, the third - 60 cm, the fourth - 80 cm.

Petunias are planted in "bowls" (pots) with a diameter of 40 cm with a capacity of 12 liters, one plant at a time. I select varieties that are rapidly growing, for example, from the Tidal, Easy Wave, Fanfare. Every year I plant petunias of other colors.

Plants grow in such "bowls" both on "trees" and on arches. There are holes in the bottom, I put drainage (expanded clay) on the bottom, be sure to put a pallet (plate). For planting plants I use high-quality nutritious peat soil. In the future, I feed the plants every week for rapid growth and flowering.

I water the plants using a pump. I have a barrel with a capacity of 1000 liters and a pump in it. I fertilize flowers in the same way, through watering.

The dimensions of the structure in the form of an arch: height 160 cm, width at the bottom - 3 m, distance between arches - 52 cm, distance between pots 60 cm.To ensure the stability of the arc, the arches are driven into the ground to a depth of 60 cm.

Every year I experiment with plants on the arch. The upper arch is always made of petunias, and in hanging pots with a capacity of 3 liters I plant a loosestrife Aurea, alissum or something else ampelous, but not large, so that the petunias do not interrupt.

After I decorated the path to the house with petunia trees and arches, I wanted to decorate the windows as well. My husband made pot holders (also from metal). Now we have two flower pots on each window.

My favorite plants are petunias and balsams. And I also really fell in love with ampel begonias. When I started to deal with flowers, I bought only seeds, and now for the fourth year now I have been acquiring vegetative plants (which reproduce only by cuttings).

I grow seedlings of all flowers myself, both from seeds and vegetative varieties. I have a heated greenhouse, and at the beginning of March I start my work there. All containers with flowers grow until the end of May in the greenhouse, and already large in a blooming state I place them on the structure.
