New lilies: varieties of the XXI century

In the last article (cm. Favorite lilies, varieties of the last century) we talked about wonderful varieties of lilies obtained quite a long time ago, in the past century, as well as about the breeders who were engaged in their creation. Now let's talk about the modern varieties that the new generation of breeders of the floriculture department of the Federal Research Center named after V.I. I.V. Michurina - Pugacheva G.M., Sokolova M.K., Lamonov V.V. and Kuzichev O.B. These are the newest varieties, which are included in the State Register of Breeding Achievements of the Russian Federation and literally spread all over the world. 

Lily Accent (Asian hybrids)
  • Accent (Asian hybrids) - in general, the flower of the variety is white, but there is a purple-brown smear. Blooms in medium terms. On nutritious and moderately moist soil, it reaches a height equal to almost a meter. The inflorescence has the shape of a broad-pyramidal brush, the flowers are located strictly vertically, they are broadly chalky. The perianth lobes are oval, with a purple-brown center on an orange background. The variety will be of interest to those who are annoyed by the obsessive scent of lilies - this cultivar does not smell at all. Other advantages include a long flowering period of 20 days. Also, the variety will be of interest to those who breed lilies on their own - it is bulbous and forms up to 60 bulbs on the stem. Among other things, the variety is resistant to the vagaries of the weather, pests and diseases.
Lily Panorama (Asian hybrids)
  • Panorama (Asian hybrids) - plants of this variety reach a height of almost 1 meter. The peduncle is strong and straight, the inflorescence is a broad-pyramidal raceme, consisting of 12 flowers, oriented straight. Interestingly, 7 flowers are usually dissolved at the same time, each of which reaches a diameter of 15 cm, has a wide-bowl shape and a golden yellow, with a dark ruby ​​red, smear. A medium flowering variety with a duration of up to 20 days. Forms a large number of bulbs - up to 50 of them on the stem. It is noted that this variety is resistant to adverse weather conditions, as well as to pests and diseases.
  • Fad (Asian hybrids) - the height of the plants of this variety is close to a meter. The peduncle is straight and strong. The inflorescence is a conical raceme with up to 15 straight-oriented flowers. At the same time, usually 5 flowers are dissolved, reaching a diameter of 14 cm, having a wide-chalky shape, a light yellow color with a purple-scarlet stroke and small specks. The variety blooms in medium terms, blooms for about 20 days. Forms up to 50 bulbs per stem. It is characterized by resistance to the vagaries of the weather, pests and diseases.
  • South night (Asian hybrids) - the plant exceeds 1 meter, has a strong and straight peduncle and a completely compact pyramidal inflorescence, including up to 12 flowers, half of which bloom at the same time. The flowers look upward, they are star-shaped and reach a diameter of 13 cm. The color of the flowers is dark cherry-scarlet. The peculiarities of the variety are the absence of aroma and non-fading color. This variety blooms for a little less than a month, which is a very good indicator, flowering begins at the end of the first decade of July. In cut, the variety stands up to 2 weeks and is very well transported. Up to 7 babies are formed on each bulb, suitable for reproduction. On the stem - up to 40 bulbs, which can also be used to propagate the variety without losing varietal characteristics. The peculiarities of the variety are medium resistance to pests, high resistance to diseases and whims of the weather, high winter hardiness and heat resistance.
Lily South Night (Asian hybrids)
  • Sultry Summer (Tubular hybrids) - the plant exceeds a meter in height, forms a brush-shaped inflorescence, usually consisting of 8 flowers, half of which bloom at the same time. The flowers are oriented downward and to the sides, have a tubular shape, yellowish-orange color, reach a diameter of 12 cm.The variety is characterized by a strong and persistent aroma, the color fade to a low degree. Flowering lasts a maximum of 2 weeks, begins at the very beginning of July, when the first flower opens, and enters the active phase with the massive opening of flowers, after a few days. Each bulb forms a pair of babies suitable for breeding. Of the positive advantages of the variety, it should be noted its resistance to the vagaries of the weather, fusarium, average resistance to pests, high winter hardiness and heat resistance.
Lily Aria (Tubular hybrids)
  • Aria (Tubular hybrids) - Plants of this variety usually exceed one meter in height. The peduncle of the variety is straight, but not very durable. The inflorescence is a raceme, usually consisting of 7 flowers, of which 4 bloom at the same time. The variety forms a straight and strong peduncle and an inflorescence - a cluster of 12 flowers, half of which bloom at the same time. The flowers are oriented downward, they have a turban-like shape and a diameter of up to 12 cm. The color of the flowers is yellow-orange. The cultivar is characterized by an average aroma of flowers, the color fade strongly, and the flower becomes light yellowish. Flowering lasts about 2 weeks, begins in mid-July and becomes active after a couple of days. Each bulb forms up to 2 babies. The variety is resistant to the whims of the weather, fusarium, can be affected by pests and diseases, is characterized by sufficient winter hardiness and heat resistance for cultivation in the center of Russia and a little to the north for cultivation in the southern regions.

The aroma of the variety is average, the color does not fade. Flowering lasts a little less than 2 weeks, begins in mid-July and after a couple of days turns into mass. Winter hardiness is sufficient for cultivation in the center of Russia and a little to the north, and heat resistance is sufficient for cultivation in the southern regions.
  • Your smile (Asian hybrids) - the variety usually reaches 1 m, has a strong and straight peduncle and a brush-shaped inflorescence, numbering up to 9 flowers, half of which bloom at the same time. The flowers are oriented to the sides and downward, have a semi-diamond shape and reach 14 cm in diameter. The color of the flowers is pale pinkish. Of the specific features of the variety, it should be noted the complete absence of aroma and low-burning color. Flowering lasts a little less than 2 weeks, the first flowers bloom at the end of the first decade of July, and exactly in the middle of July, mass flowering begins. As for reproduction, it is noteworthy that the bulb of this variety forms just a huge number of children - up to 7 pieces. In addition to babies on the bulbs, bulbs are also formed. Of the positive qualities of the variety, it should be noted its resistance to the vagaries of the weather, average resistance to pests and diseases, high winter hardiness and heat resistance.
  • Ballad (Tubular hybrids) - the plant reaches a meter in height and may slightly exceed it.Peduncles are straight and strong, sometimes two of them grow from one bulb, and not one, as usual. Inflorescence is a raceme containing up to 5 flowers that look down and to the sides. The flower has a yellow color, the perianth lobes are painted on the outside in a greenish-yellow color, on the inside they are yellow. The diameter of the flower is just over 10 cm. The flowers are distinguished by a strong aroma, bloom up to 2 weeks. The start of flowering is celebrated at the beginning of July, after a couple of days the peak of flowering is observed and already on July 16-17, flowering ends. The color of the flowers fade poorly. The variety is resistant to adverse weather conditions. As for reproduction, 2 babies can form on the bulb, but usually one. Of the undoubted advantages of the variety, it should be noted its high resistance to fusarium, medium resistance to botrythiasis, aphids and thrips. Both winter hardiness and drought resistance are high, however, winter hardiness is insufficient for cultivating the variety in Siberia and in the Far North.
  • Disco (Asian hybrids) - the plant usually reaches 80-85 cm, has a straight and strong peduncle, and sometimes gives two from one bulb. Inflorescence - brush, consists of 9 flowers, half of which bloom at the same time. The flowers look up and to the sides. They are yellow with a dark cherry center. The perianth segments are painted on the outside in a lemon-yellowish color, yellow inside. The diameter of the flower reaches 12 cm, there is no aroma. Each flower blooms for a little less than 2 weeks. Flowering usually begins in early July, the flowers bloom actively a couple of days after the beginning of flowering, and already on July 16-18, flowering ends. In the cut, the variety can stand for a little more than a week, and the cut can be transported over short distances. The color of the flower fade weakly in the sun. The variety is moderately resistant to adverse environmental factors. Children on the bulb usually form from 5 to 6 pieces. The cultivar does not form a bulb. Of the undoubted advantages, it should be noted the high resistance of the variety to fusarium, botrytosis, high winter hardiness and heat resistance, good keeping quality of bulbs.
Lily Quirk (Asian hybrids)

Each flower lives for an average of 1.5 weeks. The variety has an average resistance to pests and diseases, winter-hardy, heat-resistant.

On the peduncle - up to 14 flowers, up to 9 of which bloom at the same time. The inflorescence of this variety is an umbrella. The flowers are painted in two colors, they are non-double, have a tubular shape and a diameter of up to 12 cm. The main color is yellow-whitish, the additional color is pale orange-yellowish.   • Swan Lake (Asian hybrids) - the variety reaches a height of 1 m, sometimes exceeds a meter, is distinguished by an early flowering period and forms a straight and strong peduncle. On the peduncle there are up to 15 flowers, of which about a third blooms at the same time. Inflorescence is a brush. The flowers have a double color, they are non-double, star-shaped, up to 15.5 cm in diameter. The dominant color of the flower is pale yellowish, the additional color is light orange-yellow in the center, with spots and strokes of dark scarlet color. The aroma of flowers is unobtrusive, weak. Each flower lasts for two weeks. The variety is resistant to pests and diseases, winter-hardy, heat-resistant.
