Summer carrot care

Young carrot plants develop very slowly in the first period after germination, and at this time they are easily overwhelmed by weeds. Such a slow development of plants is due to the fact that at this time the taproot grows vigorously, the development of which outstrips the development of leaves. At first, it grows in length, and a month after the emergence of shoots, it begins to thicken. Therefore, within a week after the emergence of seedlings, it is advisable not to water them in order to allow the roots to go as deep as possible into the soil.

The first true leaf is formed 10-12 days after germination. So that the weeds do not interfere with young seedlings, the crops must be weeded after the appearance of the first true leaf. This must be done very carefully, so as not to pull out loose shoots with the grass.

After another 8-10 days, when the second real leaf appears, weeding is repeated, and a few days later, when the third real leaf begins to appear, the carrots are thinned out, leaving 2-2.5 cm apart between the plants. It is highly advisable to water it before thinning the garden bed to make it easier to remove excess plants. It is necessary to pull them out in an upward direction so as not to damage the adjacent root ...
