What do roses smell like?

Why are roses valued? Of course, for the beauty of the flowers, but no less for the incomparable aroma. Unfortunately, the efforts of breeders have led to the fact that many varieties of roses have appeared, distinguished by the amazing beauty of the colors and the complete absence of aroma. Such varieties can hardly be called complete. Many rose lovers refuse to buy them, which forces breeders to pay special attention to one of the main advantages of a rose - the scent of flowers.

At first glance, the smell of a rose is difficult to confuse with anything else. But it seems so only at first glance. Scientists have found that the scent of roses can resemble the smells of 17 plant species. In addition to their inherent aroma, roses can exude the smells of other plants: iris, violets, hyacinth, lily of the valley, geranium, as well as apple, orange, laurel, anise and even parsley and pepper. As a rule, aromas alien to the rose are inherent in wild rose hips, while garden varieties for the most part have a smell characteristic of roses.
