We all know barberries well, especially often we admire the colored forms, which in autumn are colored in fabulous tones. In the spring, we enjoy the delicate lilac flowers of Jeffersoia, admire the red, like tomato, podophila fruits, rejoice, looking at the delicate, medium-sized flowers of the mountain goat in the spring. They are all good in their own way, but completely different. So different that it is simply difficult to imagine that these plants belong to the same family - barberry.
Among the many plants, the mountain goat is perhaps one of the least whimsical. The British traditionally recommend the mountain goat woman for "minimum maintenance" gardens. They are used to decorate paved terraces, near patios, along with milkweed, fescue, miscanthus, container crops. For Czech authors, the mountain goat is an invariable plant for the shaded parts of the rock garden, where its main advantage is the autumn color of the foliage.

Our authors offer Mountain Goat Weed exclusively for shadow mixborders. This has its own logic. A large proportion of gardens are formed under the crowns of trees, where specific conditions are created - "dry shade". These conditions are suitable for few plants. This specificity can be especially attributed to the areas where birch trees grow. It's no secret that birches, with a superficial and highly branched root system, drink all the water within a radius of up to 10 meters from the trunk. There are few plants that can withstand such conditions. But the mountain goat grows and even very close to the trunk.
Horny Goat Weed absolutely cannot stand waterlogging. The roots-pumps of trees constantly take away excess moisture that is destructive for it - in flooded places, especially in the cold season, there is always a risk of losing interesting specimens of the Horny Goat Weed. And leaf litter saves mountain women from possible freezing in winter. The attractiveness of the color of the foliage, the abundant flowering do not suffer at all from a lack of light.

Only during planting and dividing (it is better to do this immediately after flowering, at the time of regrowth of leaves), even a short-term drying out of the rhizome can lead to the death of the plant. Therefore, the more buds the delenka has, the denser and more humid the earth at the roots, the more successful the Horny Goat Weed will be transplanted.
Mountain goats can stay in one place for many years, forming smooth thickets without bald spots. It is only necessary to evenly distribute the fallen leaves, which, overcooking, becomes natural food for the plant. The famous Soviet writer Leonid Leonov still grows well and blooms a curtain of a mountain woman more than 30 years old. (I was pleased to read about this at one time, since I was in his garden during Leonov's lifetime and enjoyed the abundance of carefully groomed plants, including a collection of cacti, the cuttings of which are still growing on my window).

HOT TANK RED (Epimedium x rubrum) - This is a hybrid variety, one of the largest and most luxuriantly blooming. The color of autumn and young leaves (border of dark ocher color) is in good harmony with badans and golden hosts.
