Radermacher in room conditions

Although the Chinese rarely blooms in the room of a radermaker, it attracts attention with its glossy, arcuate curved dark green feathery leaves. In nature, this evergreen plant is found in the subtropical climates of the mountainous regions of China and the Philippines. In spring and summer, it is covered with white bell-shaped flowers. It is a tall plant, but indoor varieties are compact and easy to cut.

Radermacher is quite unpretentious and easy to maintain, it can be recommended for landscaping office space and for novice flower growers. The most important thing to keep in mind is that this plant doesn't like change. Sudden changes in lighting, water quality, temperature fluctuations, or harsh replanting can cause leaves to fall. However, if adequate measures are taken, the radermaker will soon recover.

Lighting. Indoor Radermacher requires very bright ambient light. It should be protected from direct sunlight, which can burn the leaves, but it is advisable to allow at least 4-5 hours of oblique sunlight on it. It is optimal to keep the plant on the south, east or west windows, placing the pot behind a light tulle. If the windows in your home cannot provide adequate lighting, especially during the winter, you can use artificial lighting. In the summer, the radermacher can be taken out into the open air, gradually accustoming him to the sun's rays.

For even crown growth, regularly rotate the plant a small degree.

Temperature. Optimal is daytime around + 21 ... +24, and nighttime + 16 ... + 18оС. Do not let the temperature drop below + 10 ° C. Radermacher does not react well to sudden changes in temperature, so when buying a plant in winter, to avoid leaf fall, wrap it up well before taking it outside. Afraid of the radermaker and strong drafts, especially cold ones. In winter, with a lack of light, it is advisable to slightly lower the temperature of the content, maintain it in the room at about + 18 ° C.

Watering regular, the soil in the pot should not dry out. At any time of the year, water the plant after lightly drying the top layer, drain excess water from the pan, systematic waterlogging leads to root rot. The soil in the pot must be well drained throughout, this will help avoid waterlogging.

Use soft water at room temperature for watering. If the radermacher has brittle yellow leaves, then this is a sign of insufficient watering. The first symptom of mild overdrying will be a loss of brightness in the leaves, they will become dull and light. With excessive watering, the tips of the leaves turn black.

Air humidity. Radermacher tolerates dry indoor air, but responds well to frequent spraying of leaves. To avoid whitish bloom, use boiled water.

Top dressing apply with ready-made mineral universal complex fertilizers for indoor plants, which include microelements. Introduce them during active growth (from spring to autumn) at ½ the dosage from the instructions. In winter, with good lighting, reduce feeding by 3-4 times, and if there is a lack of light, cancel it altogether.

Soil and transplant. Radermacher prefers small pots when her roots are a little cramped. The plant is transplanted every few years if the roots have mastered the previous volume well. All transplants are carried out only by careful transshipment, slightly increasing the size of the container. A universal peat soil is suitable with the addition of about 1/3 of the volume of perlite.

Reproduction. Radermacher can be propagated by cuttings. The best time for this is summer.Cuttings must be taken green, not semi-lignified. Use Kornevin (or another root stimulant) and be sure to place the planted cuttings in the greenhouse. It can take more than a month to root them.

When sowing seeds, the containers must be placed in a bright place, since seeds need light to germinate.

Bloom in indoor conditions it occurs extremely rarely.

Pruning and shaping. To maintain a compact size, the radermaker should regularly trim. Pruning may also be required after heavy leaf fall, which can begin in unfavorable conditions. Then the branches are cut in half of their length, watering is reduced, since the need for water with a small number of leaves drops sharply, and the plant is exposed in a well-lit warm place for early fouling. As the crown grows, watering is increased, always focusing on the state of the soil.

Pests. Radermacher is susceptible to attack by a mealybug (cotton-like white lumps in the leaf axils), scale insects (bulging, wax-like formations on leaves and stems, often sweet drops on the leaves), aphids, spider mites (leaves are covered with small whitish dots) ... In the fight against mealybugs, scale insects, aphids, use systemic insecticides (Aktara, Confidor). To get rid of the tick, regularly arrange a warm shower for the plant, provide ventilation, in case of severe damage, use acaricides (Fitoverm, Akarin, etc.) Do not use Actellik, Fufanon, Karbofos.

With a constantly wet top layer of the soil, small black flies can appear near the plant, and in the soil, their larvae, similar to white worms, are mushroom mosquitoes. They are not harmful, adults do not feed, and the larvae eat only dead plant remains. Reduce watering, let the top layer of the soil dry out between waterings, if you want to get rid of it, it will be enough to spill the soil with Aktara 1-2 times.
