Gardenia from seed.

Gardenia seedlings are 3 months old.

Irina Ivanova, Kiev region, Ukraine

I already have sprouts growing from seeds. I sowed them on 05/23/2009 and they sprouted in 3 weeks, all 5 seeds. I did not soak the gardenia seeds, I stuck it into the ground about 0.5 cm and covered it with earth on top. I put a plastic bag on top of the pot. I kept the seed pot on the fridge. The earth was moistened with a sprayer, aired every day. I chose an earthen pot so that there was no stagnation of water, and put it on the refrigerator, because it is always warm there. After 3 weeks, the first sprouts appeared and I rearranged them on the windowsill, and when the last ones came out after a couple of days, I took off the bag.

The problem was with the caps, they stubbornly did not want to leave the heads of the sprouts, and I decided to help them, as I was afraid that young leaves would not disappear under the hard peel.

It was not possible to remove them with a needle, the whole sprout climbed out of the ground. Then I took and carefully cut the skin with the same needle and took them off. I watered them by spraying for a long time, until the sprouts had grown stronger. Currently, the sprouts have 4 true leaves each and the next ones are climbing, but for some reason it seems to me that they grow very slowly, or is it because I compare them with abutilones, which I sowed on the same day with gardenias and they are just about bloom.
