A basket of ... newspapers!

I want to tell you about my new hobby - weaving from newspaper tubes. It is simply impossible to tear yourself away from this activity! And I was sucked in - I began to weave various baskets and other original gizmos.

First you need to prepare the "raw material" - wind up the tubes themselves: cut newspaper sheets into strips about 10 cm wide (no more) and wind each strip on a skewer or a thick knitting needle in a spiral so that you get a tube. And so that it does not unfold, you need to fix the edges with PVA glue.

For the base of such a basket, as in the photo, you need 16 tubes. The photo shows how to fold them together.

Now is the time to take the next tube, bend it in half and wrap the main tubes (folded in 4 pieces) on both sides - direct one end of the tube under the main ones, and the other over them. So weave 2-3 rows. If necessary, build up the tubes - try to put on or stick in the next tube so that when weaving, the transition is hidden from the inside.

Now, when weaving, you need to divide the main tubes so that they turn out to be 2.

Somewhere on the 6-7th row, divide the paired tubes so that each can be braided separately.

When the bottom is ready, bend the main tubes up and weave the walls of the basket. You can put some form on the bottom and braid it. To decorate the edge of the basket beautifully, all the protruding ends of the tubes must be cut, bent inward and glued.

It remains to weave the handle. There are several ways - you can not cut, for example, 4 vertical tubes on two opposite sides and braid them. Or you can weave the handle separately and attach it to the basket. In a word, according to the situation.

Now the decor. I covered the finished basket with a "hardener" - a mixture of PVA glue, white acrylic enamel plus a little water.

After drying, I applied white enamel to all surfaces, so that later I could make decoupage with a napkin with a lilac image.

In general, you can cover the finished basket with stain or paint it in any color.
