Park roses that are not afraid of winter

Every fall, many gardeners solve a problem: how to cover roses so that they do not die in the coming winter. No one can predict what it will be - either warm and with little snow, or cold, with a lot of snow. Believe me, you will have to worry much less if you plant several frost-resistant park roses, or Shrab Roses, for example, from Canadian or Finnish nurseries.

The first to appear in my garden were roses of the Finnish selection “F.J. Grootendorst "and" Pink Grootendorst ". Grootendorst hybrids have been known since 1918. I was attracted to these roses, first of all, by their winter hardiness, up to -35 ° C, unpretentiousness and resistance to diseases. But they are not inferior to others in beauty.

F. J. Grothendorst "has 5-20 flowers on strong peduncles, which bloom in June as inflorescences," bouquets ". The flowers are crimson-red, double, have an unusual carnation shape and abundant flowering until October.

Pink Grootendorst is one of the most beautiful roses in the world. Shrub 1.5 m high, spreading, leaves are light green, shiny. Light pink flowers, double, with carved edges of petals, in inflorescences of 5-15 pieces, even more similar to bunches of carnations. In our zone 5, (Petersburg), the bushes do not require shelter at all, but in the fall I tie them more tightly so that the snow does not break the branches.

The rest of my roses required careful shelter for the winter and lost in comparison with scrubs. Of course, I wanted to expand the collection of winter-hardy, easy-to-care roses. So a year later, roses of Canadian selection appeared.

Park rose Martin FrobisherPark rose Terese Bugnet
Rose "Martin Frobisher" has an upright, strong shrub without thorns. I planted it opposite the main path to the house, it blooms profusely and continuously, until the first frost. The pink flowers appear on long stalks and can be used for cutting. What is also very important, the Martin Frobisher variety is resistant to diseases.

Rose "Therese Bugnet" forms large numbers of buds, one at a time or in clusters of up to 5 pieces on a very beautiful bush without thorns. The flowers are bright pink and have an ancient shape. Theres Bunier is a disease-resistant, easy-to-grow and very frost-resistant variety.

Park rose Blanc Double de Courbet

"Blanc Double de Courbet" is a popular French variety. Large fragrant flowers of the "White double rose de Courbet" bloom from June to mid-autumn. The bush has many thorns. Very disease-resistant variety, does not require spraying, frost-resistant.

In preparation for the winter, I pull the trunks of Canadian roses and attach them to a support, they are not yet strong enough. It's a shame if the snow breaks the bushes. And the usual shelter for these roses is not required.

Any roses are beautiful and delight us with their flowering and aroma. Floribunda, hybrid tea, polyanthus, park and others. But, given that my garden is located much north of the main cultivation areas for hybrid tea roses, I have long given up on these difficult queens to grow. Certain varieties of the floribunda group, mostly rooted and unpretentious, delight us with flowering in July. But the longest flowering - from June to October - is in my park roses, which easily disappear before winter and wake up early in the spring.
